GROUNDWATER PUMPING PERMITS SCRUTINIZED
The Boston Water and Sewer Commission requires permits for anyone pumping groundwater to keep a structure dry. Recently, the Commission released a list of the permits it has issued to the Boston Groundwater Trust, a trust affiliated with the City, which studies groundwater problems. With this information, the Groundwater Trust will determine where to place new groundwater observation wells, and if possible, have the permit holder put in their own wells
The list of permits will be posted on the Trusts website: http://bostongroundwater.org/ Anyone who knows of dry-weather pumping from below grade should contact the Trust or the Boston Water and Sewer Commission.
For more information contact Tim Mitchell, Co-Chairman, BGwT, (617) 425-0900.
